LSCC Awards History

The LSCC has instituted several awards over its 40 year history to recognize the ongoing efforts of club members to expand Liberty Seated coinage knowledge via research and publishing consistent with the educational goals of our club. A list of past winners for multiple award categories are listed below.

The LSCC first launched the Best Article Award in 1982, which was changed to the Kamal M. Ahwash Award in 1984 to memorialize the passing of Kam Ahwash, the first President of the LSCC. The award is given annually by a vote of the membership for the best article to appear in the Gobrecht Journal.

Beginning 2021, the LSCC first awarded the John W. McCloskey Research Award for the best article on die variety analysis or other physical aspects of coinage. This new annual award was named in honor of legendary researcher and long-time LSCC President and Gobrecht Journal Editor, John W. McCloskey.

Beginning 2023, the LSCC first awarded a new award for the favorite Featured Collection of an LSCC member that appeared at the centerfold of the Gobrecht Journal during the year, as voted by the membership.
